Our story

Preservation is a promise to the future.

Since 1954, we have worked to keep Etowah County’s photographs, records, objects and stories available for the people who come next.

it matters.

A home for local memory

The Etowah Historical Society was founded by local citizens who saw preservation as a shared civic responsibility.

The Society begins

Our organization is founded to preserve and share the history of Etowah County.

The museum opens

The Etowah Heritage Museum creates a dedicated place for exhibits and local and Native American history.

The work continues

Our research library, photograph archive, genealogy resources and museum help people make new connections with the past.

History belongs to the community.

We preserve more than dates and objects. We preserve the evidence of how people lived, worked, gathered and changed Etowah County.
